NSS

National service scheme

National service scheme was started in our polytechnic in 1986. Initially it was started with one unit comprising 100 volunteers. The two aspects of NSS are regular activities and special camping programme. Activities like career guidance, soft skill, entrepreneur ship, clean environment, free eye camps and medical camps are conducted in regular activities. A village is adopted by our NSS unit and the special camp is conducted in the village every year. Some innovative and creative programmes and activities are conducted for the upliftment of the village. In 1998 the second unit of NSS was started by the Directorate of Technical Education. Now totally 200 volunteers are enrolled for NSS activities.      
   Mr. D. Navilan, Lecturer (SG) / Physics is the programme officer of unit-I and Mr.S. Chellappa, Lecturer (Sr.G) / Mechanical is the programme officer of unit-II.


Mass campus cleaning drive and Tree plantation was held in our polytechnic campus by our NSS volunteers on 29.08.2018. 60 volunteers participated in the programme with enthusiastically. Unwanted  garbage and waste plastics were removed and eradicated. The drive was organized by our programme officers Mr. D. Navilan and Mr. S. Chellappa.

Our polytechnic NSS units conducted a programme on HIV/AIDS awareness on 21.08.2018. 125 volunteers participated in the programme. Trained counselor Mrs. P. Vijaya Rani, and Mr.  Sankar Raj, peace trust, Palayamkottai conducted various programme like growth and development of HIV/AIDS. The resource person in her speech made an appeal to NSS volunteers that the HIV/AIDS affected people should not be neglected by the society. The principal Dr. G. Sankara Subramanian presided over the programme. The programme officers Mr. D. Navilan and Mr. S. Chellappa organized the programme.

Mass cleaning programme was held on 06.01.2018 at Arugankulam (Tirunelveli) Tamirabarani river bed area. Nearly 2000 volunteers from various schools and colleges participated in the drive. 150 NSS volunteers of our sankar polytechnic college too participated. Our district collector Mr. Sandeep Nanduri presided over the programme and advised the students to keep the environment clean. Our principal Mr.G. Sankarasubramanian and programme officer Mr. D. Navilan joined with them.

Manavala kalai yoga was conducted in our polytechnic on 09.09.2017 (Saturday).Mr. D. Navilan, programme officer, unit-I welcomed the gathering. Eight professors from manavala kalai mandrams, polyamkottai gave training in meditation, kayakalpam and yoga exercises. 100 students participated in the training. It rejuvenates the young minds of students. It increases the memory power and discipline of the students. The students felt that it is a good practice to be adopted right from the young age. Mr. S.Chellappa, programme officer, unit-II proposed vote of thanks.
 



 

One day NSS camp was organized by our NSS unit on 29.07.2017 (Saturday). The Camp mainly targeted to eradicate plastics and other wastes in and around our college campus and the awareness not to use plastics is made. A group of 60 NSS volunteers took part in the campus cleaning process along with NSS programme officer Mr. D.Navilan and our librarian Miss. Vijaya laxshmi .

NSS special camp 2016-2017
                The special camp was conducted from 23.01.2017 to 29.01.2017 (7 days) in the adopted villages Mela Thalaiyuthu and Kameelanagar. The activities like mass tree plantation, Renovation works in school and public buildings, Road formation, preservation of place of cultural heritage, free training in Handicraft for women, free eye camps and AIDS and Dengue fever awareness rally was conducted.

One day free Medical & Dental camp
Date: 11.03.2017
One day free Medical & Dental camp was conducted on 11.03.2017 (Saturday) at Housing board colony community hall, Sankarnagar, by our college NSS unit. Dr. S. Premachandran and his team gave free medicine for diabetics to the people who attended the camp. Dr. Charles Premkumar, the Dentist and his team treated around 200 people and freely supplied tooth  pastes and mouth wash. 30 volunteers and 2 NSS officers arranged this camp.
